From playing seven-on-seven football in Graham to performing in front of 15,000 people, Hudson Westbrook caught enough attention to bring almost 20,000 people to Graham for a concert.
As a freshman studying oil and gas at Texas Tech, Westbrook dropped out to chase his music dreams, a decision he revealed during a live show, surprising both fans and his mom.
Westbrook headlined the final concert of the Graham Summer Concert Series in downtown Graham. The free concert, held on the largest downtown square in America, drew a large crowd.
The president and the chief executive officer of Graham Savings & Loan, a major sponsor, estimated that 15,000 to 20,000 people would attend the concert.
People started showing up the day before to save parking spots and set up lawn chairs.
Food trucks and stores on the square were open and ready for visitors.
My friends and I heard about the concert and cleared our weekend so that we could go.
I have been a huge fan of Westbrook before he released his first song, so this was an amazing experience for me.
I managed to get my way to the front of the pit and even got a video with him.
Others thought that setting out lawn chairs would help the pit area not pack when it came out, but that was not the case. Fights broke out because others were mad that teenagers wanted to get in front of them to see Westbrook.
He strummed the first note on his guitar, and the crowd went wild. Westbrook recently came out with a new album, so hearing it live was awesome. Listening to the different songs and the stories behind the songs that he wrote made the experience special.
Overall, bringing Westbrook to a small town was a great idea and made me want to go to another one of his concerts.
Westbrook, born and raised in Stephvenville, loves performing in small towns like Graham.
Westbrook made his Grand Ole Opry debut on July 22, performing his most popular hits and receiving a standing ovation.
Westbrook continues to add shows to his tour and grow his fan base larger by the day.
