Ladycats win district
After finishing the season in first place with an undefeated 8-0 district record , the Ladycats are hoping to keep moving forward with their success in the playoffs, said senior Elliot Hilbers.
The last time the Ladycats won district was in the 2008 season. This is also the first time the Ladycats have been outright district champions with Windthorst in their district.
The Ladycats have always set high goals and achieving a state championship title is No. 1 on their list, said head coach Krissa Johnson.
“I feel great about our end result in the district season,” Coach Johnson said.
Defeating Windthorst twice this season was one of the most monumental accomplishments this year, said junior Lauren Castles. The Ladycats, however, could face the Trojenettes again in the playoffs
“I’m always confident when facing Windthorst, but I also respect my opponent,” Coach Johnson said.
After being defeated by Windthorst in the last round of the regional finals last season, the girls have come back stronger than ever, said Hilbers.
“I hope to have a deeper run than last year,” Hilbers said.
After graduating three seniors, the Ladycats have proved to remain a strong standing team, said Castles.
“We don’t feel that we lack anything from last year’s team,” Castles said. “I feel like I’ve moved up to a bigger leadership role.”
Castles also said that there are things to be refined and improved on before moving forward in the season.
“We really need to improve our passing as well as our communication on the court,” she said.
The Ladycats will be competing against Hamilton in the area game at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 in Mineral Wells.
