Author Lauren Roberts quickly made a name in the young adult fantasy world with her first project, the “Powerless” trilogy series which she started in her college years.
The “Powerless” trilogy contains three main books and two novellas. Her books are mixed between romance, death, survival, power and trials such as “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. “Fearful” is a novella recently released that has book lovers on the edge of their seats. Although the novella is not based on a true story, it pursues a love triangle between the two royal brothers, who have powers, and an ordinary girl. Ordinary in the fictional Kingdom means they are powerless as the people who are “Elites” mainly rule and dominion the community.
It has been confirmed that the “Powerless” series is being adopted into up a TV show. The fans are going to love it.
For those who have read the other books from the “Powerless” trilogy, they know that Roberts highlights character development in the novellas, giving the side characters a chance to tell their stories since they don’t take the spotlight in the main trilogy, and builds on more details to the plot where readers can start connecting the dots.
Since Roberts started her first project during her college years, her writing, imagination and creativity have developed as she has collected her fan interest over the years. For instance, during one of her TikTok Live streams, she named her female main character, Paedyn, after a fan suggested that she would love to have her own name on a book. On top of that Roberts loved the idea of her fan’s name as it’s unique and uncommonly spelled from other names.
“Fearful” adds on more to the conflict of the story and gives the new and side characters the opportunity to tell us their perspective.
I would always gladly recommend the “Powerless” trilogy to anyone more who seeks a similar book series as “The Hunger Games”. For new readers I would suggest starting from the beginning of the series all the way to the last book which is “Fearful”.
In the end, “Fearful” isn’t just a novella and a side story; it brings on an adventure of battles and a new point of view including an aspect of emotions behind the epic battles as the story discloses more details beyond the main books as it continues.
