The shift in focus for “Wednesday” season 2 appears to move away from romance and deeper into horrors that surround the Nevermore students.
The season was released in two parts, a strategy that kept fans engaged.
A key strength of the show remains its cast and visual effects. Jenna Ortega continues to embody the mysterious aesthetic of Wednesday Addams.
The show also introduces new characters, like well-known actor Steve Buscemi as the new principal, Barry Dort, and the highly anticipated guest appearance of pop icon Lady Gaga.
These additions, along with the increased presence of other Addams family members like Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), were a major part of the enjoyment of the show.
However, the show struggles with its core theme. While the first season blended a mystery with the quirky Addams family humor, season 2 leans more into the supernatural and “outcast” elements of the Nevermore school. This shift overshadows the dark, comedic vibe that is the Addams Family.
The plot of Season 2 revolves around a new mystery involving a series of crimes committed by someone or something controlling crows. Wednesday’s investigation leads her to a new villain, the return of old threats and family struggles.
The addition of more of the Addams family members, particularly Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) and Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), adds more to the story, although the cast and plots led to a some-what confusing and hard to follow story.
Overall, “Wednesday” Season 2 is a dramatic and visually engaging season.
It focuses on the supernatural elements and expands the Addams family universe. The more of the mysterious feeling in the first season was better for the plot, but seeing more characters and their dynamics in the show was refreshing.
The series continues to increase in success as we continue into the fall season, as proven by its high views and a confirmed third season already, but it’s clear the show is still trying to find its identity and direct plot.
For those who are interested in watching Season 2 of the hit show, they can find it on Netflix under the “Netflix original Series” tab. I highly recommend this show for those looking for a dramatic and thrilling watch. It’s especially great for viewers trying to get into the Halloween mood.
