After the performance of their play, “The Potman Spoke Sooth,” the cast, crew, and directors posed on stage for a picture.

The junior high one act play cast and crew placed second at the district competition in Olney on Nov. 19. Directors were Mrs. Leslie Graham, Mrs. Becky Nogle and Mrs. Haley Owen.

The play they performed was “The Potman Spoke Sooth,” a spoof of famed author Agatha Christie’s many crime plays.

“It was a farce on British murder mysteries,” Mrs. Nogle said. “We chose it because it called for a lot of parts and we had a lot of kids sign up to join.”

Eighth grader Kodi Graham and seventh grader Kannon Rice were named to the All-Star Cast.

I know that I couldn’t have done it without the team.

“When I was named AllStar Cast, it was awesome,” Rice said. “I felt like I had achieved my goal for one act.”

The crew, which consisted of seventh graders Alyssa Casillas, Jacob Wadley, Mathew Walker, Bailey Cox and eighth grader Morgan Essary, was named the Outstanding Crew of the district competion.

“It excited me to know that I could mess up a little and still have my team named the most outstanding,” Essary said. “It really built my confidence and made me want to continue doing one act.”

This year was the first year that the one act team didn’t have a stage on which to practice and perform their play on.

“We went for as simple a set as possible because most of our stuff has been packed away,” Mrs. Graham said. “We had to be a lot more creative during practices.”

However, the cast and crew “pushed through” the dilemma of not having a stage, said Graham.

“I got into one act because of my sister [Jayce],” Graham said. “I was really surprised that I got All-Star Cast, and I know that I couldn’t have done it without the team.”
