There are a lot of current memes that are trending. Some are genuinely funny, but most get annoying with overuse. These are the most common ones you hear people say that I find tiring to listen to.
For example, take the 67 meme. Some videos talking about this meme on TikTok have received millions of likes. The comments on these posts contain a group of people who are either joining in on the joke or commenting on how much they dislike it. Many individuals don’t understand why two numbers are so popular. It’s just the same as the 41 meme, which is also just numbers that don’t have any real meaning or purpose to them.
To continue with what I was saying earlier, I find mangos and mustard very annoying. It bothers me a lot when I’m sitting in class, and one of the boys or my friends suddenly says, “67 mangos and mustard.” The whole point of this joke is for the words to have the same number of letters to basically make a 6 and a 7. Mangos has six letters, and mustard has seven letters. So, if you look at the number of letters in each word, you end up with a six and a seven. If you put those two numbers together, you get 67. Yep, that’s the purpose of this annoying phrase. It just makes two numbers. These jokes are getting old.
Another meme or slang that I find annoying is “unc.” It feels disrespectful for students to call their teachers “uncle.” When they say this, they are basically telling their teachers that they are acting older than they really are. I’ve seen kids say this to adults, and it clearly makes some of them uncomfortable, yet everyone around just laughs or giggles quietly. To them, it’s all just a joke, but it can cross a line.
In addition, there’s something called Italian brainrot that really needs to stop. This trend is just teaching children nonsense. Kids are walking around saying random names from these brainrot memes, yelling them in class, singing the song that goes with them and constantly watching videos about them. Overall, it’s not healthy for children to repeat all these silly phrases from the Italian brainrot memes.
All these memes and jokes are really frustrating. It gets annoying after a while, but kids just keep saying them. Every generation has their own kind of slang, and I believe we should, too, but I also think the people who say these jokes need to understand that after a while they aren’t funny. We can’t continue to say the same jokes over and over again. We need to come up with something new and fresh and not overuse the slang.
