OVERALL: The junior varsity Ladycats have a 2-5 record.
THIS WEEK: This week JV girls played Holliday, but the results were unavailable at press time. The Ladycats will travel to Nocona for their next game on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
BRIGHT SPOTS: “Our team’s bright spots are definitely that a lot of our players hit their shots often,” freshman Emry Veitenheimer said. “We also communicate well on the court and everyone on the team gets along.”
Sophomore Raynee Smith believes the team’s defense is decent.
“We are pretty good at defense,” Smith said. “As the season goes on, we will definitely progress and get better at everything we do.”
Junior Jetzyre Miranda said the team members cooperate with each other.
“All of us work really well together at practice an
d during the games,” Miranda said. “We all try hard at practice which carries to the game.”
INSIDE SCOOP: “I think that this season is going to go pretty good,” Smith said. “We will continue to get better as the season goes on and we have more practices. I feel our main strength is that we all get along and our weakness is definitely outside shooting.”
Miranda said the team’s season is going to be good.
“I feel like this season is going to go well considering that we have more shooters,” Miranda said. “We also have pretty solid defense. Both our shooting and defense will improve throughout the season. One of our strengths is definitely the athleticism up and down the court. One weakness is not knowing our spots that well.”
PLAYERS & POSITIONS: “Paislee Getts, Kaylee Kolacek and Emry Veitenheimer are the only players with set positions,” Coach Haley Owen said. “Paislee and Kaylee are primarily posts, and Emry is a guard. The rest of the team will see time inside and outside of the paint.”
COACH’S VIEW: “I was very impressed by the game the JV had against Holliday,” Owen said. “They showed great improvement this week and did a great job advancing the ball up the court in transition. They also handled Holliday’s press pretty well.”
ATHLETE’S VIEW: “One big thing that the team could improve on is communication on and off the court,” Smith said. “Sometimes we don’t talk during the game which leads to open baskets for the opposing team. If we communicate off the court, it could contribute to the court as well.”
Veitenheimer said she believes the team could do better on offense.
“I feel like the main thing that we could improve on is learning and executing our plays better,” Veitenheimer said. “During the game, we sometimes get lost while running plays, so in practice we try to work on plays as much as possible.”
