“Even though we lost to Nocona, we still fought hard and played our best,” seventh grader Kenzie Haskell said. “Our team is very competitive and well put together.”
Seventh grader Alice Beasley said they went into the game already thinking they would win.
“I don’t think they were completely ready for it. We let our cockiness get to us, Beasley said.”
The eighth grade team started with a win against Nocona.
“We did great our first game coming out with a win,” Eighth grader Emory Kincaid said. “I loved playing Nocona. It was a tough game, but we came out with a win of 30-16.”
Going into the second game, neither of the teams came out with a win.
“It wasn’t as good as we could do, but we were already in our head before we even started the game, eighth grader Khylie-Jo Thurlkill said.”
Hannah Hoover said she agreed and had more to say.
“I feel like we were too nervous before the game started,” Hoover said. “We knew they were good, and we let that get in our head.”
The seventh grade team lost 10-34.
“I feel like we didn’t do as great as we could have because we didn’t talk or run our plays,” seventh grader McKenna Brown said.
In the Haskell tournament the eighth grade girls went 1-2, losing the first and winning the second. Two seventh graders Hannah Krenek and Raegen Rowe playing up.
BRIGHT SPOTS: “I like how we have many girls that want to play basketball, and most of them work to their full potential,” Coach Krissa England said.”
There are many highlights this season with the players, plays, positions and more, said Coach Amy Huseman.
“The girls play very hard, and one of the eighth grade girls’ biggest bright spots is getting down our press break and doing it really well in the game,” Huseman said.
PLAYERS & POSITIONS: “We are all in the positions we need to be in, and even if we are in a new spot than we have been in previously, we are still smart and athletic enough to do it,” eighth grader Emory Kincaid said.
WEAKNESS: “We can definitely improve our defense, shooting and ball handling,” eighth grader Maci Casillas said.
The seventh and eighth graders have some similar and some different weaknesses, seventh grader Hannah Krenek said.
“I think weaknesses of our team is running our plays and being where we need to be when we need to be there,” Krenek said.
STRENGTH: “Some of our strengths are being coachable and being able to work together as a team and learning from our mistakes,” Kincaid said.
The teams have lots of strengths and good qualities, Haskell said.
“Our team has lots of good things, including our athletic skills and our ability to play well together as a team,” Haskell said.
