Wildcat fans show their spirit

Every Friday night a great roar can be heard from stadiums all across Texas. This roar is high school football fans cheering, booing and much more for their hometown team.

Eighth grader Layne Briggs is one of these fans.

“The games can be really exciting,” Briggs said, “the big hits get me really pumped up.”

Being the water boy is a “great honor” for Freshman Sebastian Mabry.

“It’s a cool opportunity,” Mabry said, “I love cheering them on every Friday night.’

For some, like freshman Morgan Essary, it took being around the rowdy band members to bring out her inner fan.

Hearing everyone gets me fired up and just reminds me of who I’m playing for.

“The band is really into the game,” Essary said, “It’s really thrilling and begins to rub off on you.”

Senior William Warren is carrying a big expectation as the bari-saxaphone player.

“The bari-sax player is always the loudest band member at football games.” Warren said, “I took on this role as a sophomore, and it’s my job to carry it on.”

Middle school science teacher, Brian Cooke, has the thrill of having his son on the field.

“I wake up Monday morning ready and excited for Friday,” Mr. Cooke said.

Being a cheerleader for the Wildcats is one of Lauren Castle’s favorite things to do on a Friday evening.

“It’s awesome, I love cheering on the boys.” Castles said.

Being on the receiving end of the chants is why sophomore Conner Byrd enjoys the Friday night lights.

“It’s encouraging, always hearing the crowd cheering in the background of everything happening on the field.” Byrd said, “Hearing everyone gets me fired up and just reminds me of who I’m playing for.”
