The new One Love: Bob Marley movie, directed by Reinaldo Marcus, has many fundamentel elements.
Aired on Feb. 24, the movie is classified into the genres of documentary, drama, musical, and musical drama.
Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, Lashana Lynch, and James Norton, this movie takes a deep dive into what Bob Marley spent his life trying to accomplish: one love.
The movie has a soundtrack that contains
many reggae based songs like “Natural Mystic” by Bloody Civillian, “Exodus” by Skip Marley, “Waiting in Vain” by Daniel Caesar, “Three Little Birds” by Kacey Musgraves, “One Love” by Wizkid, “Is This Love” by Jessie Reyez, “Redemption Song” by Leon Bridges, “Rasta Reggae (Jamming)” by Farruko, “Misty Morning” by Mystic Marley, and “No Women No Cry” by Shenseea. It also consisted of many more songs from the 1970s.
The movie had some clothing styles that took many back to the expressive times of the ‘70s and ‘80s. The main character, Bob Marley, played by Kingsley Ben-Adir; mainly wore the Adidas brand, others wore a wide spread of genre for clothing such as many Jamaica based clothing, South African, and formal styles.
The movie mainly centered around some major political problems in Jamaica. Bob Marley himself not only created music because of his love for it, but to get messages across to more people in a louder and more widespread way.
“One Love” takes place during a period of harsh political division in Jamaica. The movie covered the years 1976 to 1978. There were two main political parties that were battling each other: the People’s National Party (PNP) represented by the socialist prime minister Michael Manley and the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) who was represented by capitalist politician Edward Seaga. Marley did not bias either party; he did, however, spread the awareness of poverty, life in the ghetto, social injustice and political tensions by creating reggae-based music.
“One Love: Bob Marley” is a message-packed movie. The movie, his music and life of Bob Marley was all a message of hope for unifying together, and that change and can make the world a better place.
