OVERALL: The junior high football team finished the season with a record of 3 and 5. The Wildcats have gotten multiple victories since the beginning of the season.
PREVIOUS GAMES: “My favorite game of the season is when we played Nocona because it was our first win,” eighth grader team captain Brendan Coxsaid.
The Wildcats beat Nocona 22-8.
BRIGHT SPOTS: “During a game, I keep a positive team environment by encouraging my teammates to do the best that they can,” Cox said.
Furthermore, the junior high football team claimed that they tried to go into games with a positive mindset.
“This season, I went into games with the mind set that I was going to play my best, and we were going to win the game,” eighth grader Reece Wooldridge said.
Coach Owen explain that this helped the team be more mentally successful because they had better attitudes during games.
PLAYERS & POSITIONS: “I am kind of disappointed that I got switched from quarterback to wide receiver, but I’m better at wide receiver, and I got the ball more, and I got more chances to score,” eighth grader team captain Abel McCown said.
Seventh grade Luke Doyle took McCown’s place at quarterback in the middle of the season.
“I’m excited about being switched to quarterback, and I think I will get more good opportunities next season,” Doyle said.
Previously, Doyle was playing wide receiver before he moved positions.
WEAKNESS: “We could have improved this season by having more tackles, but we will work to improve on that next year,” Doyle said.
The Wildcats will work to improve next season, and they will have new players who move up from sixth grade.
STRENGTH: “This season, our team was good at communicating on the field, and we were good at hard work,” seventh grader Kalan Stevens said.
In addition, the Wildcats explained that they have been practicing hard work and how to use it during games.
McCown said.
In addition, hard work now will help players when they are in high school.
“I want the coaches to remember me as a hard-working kid who didn’t give up on the sport that they love,” McCown said.
