The National Honor Society inducted 11 new members Oct. 15.
The new members include senior Juan Alba and sophomores McKenzie Bradshaw, Gracelyn Canada, Myah Ferguson, Ashlyn Harvey, Kaylee Kolacek, Millie Mayo, Raynee Smith, Reed Truette, Seth Truette and Adelyn Winter.
Mayo said she has worked very hard to be inducted into NHS.
“I believe that my hard work has paid off because there have been many nights that I have stayed up to make good grades,” Mayo said.
Students have equipped themselves for this new role in their school and community.
“I have prepared myself for NHS by working hard in class to maintain a high grade point average and being a respectful person inside and outside of school,” Canada said.
I think it is an honor to be a part of NHS. It will only help me be a better student.[/pullquote]President Kori Keeter said she is looking forward to working with the new group of students.
“Although I was not able to make the induction, I am excited about all of the new members,” Keeter said.
Sponsor Leslie Graham said she would love to see more community service hours and involvement from students in the organization.
“We are helping with the elementary fall carnival in October and parents’ night out for elementary,” Graham said. “We are also planning an NHS trip for December that will include an educational part, as well as some fun and food. I am looking forward to seeing how our students can demonstrate leadership and character on campus.”
Keeter said that there is a lot to look forward to with the new members.
“I think our group has a lot planned for this year,” Keeter said. “NHS definitely holds me accountable and helps me keep up with service hours.”
NHS prioritizes four main pillars including scholarship, service, leadership and character. Students are expected to show these qualities in and out of school.
“I definitely do feel like my hard work has paid off,” Canada said. “I think it is an honor to be a part of NHS. It will only help me be a better student.”
