Teachers hobbies
Although students may think otherwise, teachers have lives outside the classroom, and they also enjoy hobbies.
“I found some tabletop games that were very interesting, but they required you to put the pieces together and paint them yourself,” band director Andrew Brinkman said.
Making observations to bring back to his students is the reason science teacher Bill Crowley said he goes on motorcycle trips.
“I often use the photos, videos, and experiences to reinforce science principles in my classes. Even now, I remain an inveterate learner,” Crowley said. “I simply love seeing new things, places, and people.”
She enjoys riding horses, English teacher Savannah Grisham said, because it is incredibly peaceful.
“When I am with my horses, I don’t think about anything else that is going on or that has happened that day,” Grisham said
Science teacher LeeAnne Warren said that she finds golf challenging.
“
said. “It seems simple on TV, but to actually play golf is trying to make perfection.”
Brinkman said that he tries to paint at least a few times a week.
“During marching season, I take a break because I’m too busy,” Brinkman said.
She plays golf more in the summer, Warren said.
“I try to play golf twice a week during the school year,” Warren said.
In her free time, Grisham said she rides her horses.
“I try to ride at least a few times a week,” Grisham said
Different hobbies originate from different places.
Warren said that her hobby started when she was 10 years old.
“My father played golf, and I wanted to go along with him,” Warren said. “My mom did not play as much as my father.”
Grisham said that she started to ride when she was 3 years old.
“My mom rode horses, and she taught me how to ride,” Grisham said
Crowley said that his brother got a touring motorcycle 10 years ago.
“We had ridden bikes about 30 years before that, but both of us gave it up when we started families,” Crowley said. “With the encouragement of my wife, I got a bike, too, and we started riding together.”
