April Fool’s Day is a holiday celebrated on April 1, and it’s full of surprises and jokes. However, those jokes aren’t safe and could honestly be harmful.
April Fool’s should not be celebrated.
April Fool’s Day is the most unnecessary holiday, and there is really no point in having it. People already know a prank is going to happen anyways since it’s April Fool’s. It’s pointless. It’s also a day full of stress because people constantly worry when a prank is going to happen, and why would anyone want a holiday full of stress? It causes anxiety and distress which doesn’t bring fun along.
Not only is anxiety in this holiday but so is humiliation. People could post something on Instagram, Facebook or Tiktok and think it’s a funny joke for April Fool’s, but they don’t realize that the thing that was posted as a joke could have really humiliated someone. It could be a joke to the person who posted it but not at all to the person involved.
According to the website Fentoninprint.com, “People have taken the opportunity of April Fools’ Day to do malicious things to their peers, causing a lot of animosities and severe humiliation. What seems to be funny to one can be absolutely humiliating and harmful to another.”
April Fool’s could also lead to disappointment. For example, Suzanne Collins, the publisher of the Hunger Games could say there was going to be another movie coming out. Fans would be so excited and couldn’t wait, but Suzanne would just be joking because it was April Fools. All the fans would be disappointed, angry and upset.
Often people’s pranks go too far and could lead to property destruction or physical injury. “Other April Fools’ Day pranks that went a little too far include this defendant who staged an armed robbery with a toy gun, threatened to kill the cashier for seeing his face, then declared the whole robbery to be an April Fools’ joke and returned the money,” library.law stated. Not only is that prank too far, but that could have also lead to injury and PTSD for some people.
Many religions don’t like April Fool’s Day because it’s a day for of lying, which is not what is wanted in most religions. Kids, teens and adults are all lying. Kids lying on April fools is a little understandable, but adults lying and following a religion that says lying is a sin is childish and wrong.
People could say April Fool’s is a funny, harmless and fun holiday, but it has so many down sides to it and isn’t as fun as people say it is. It shouldn’t be a celebrated holiday and should never have been in the first place.
