The library recently added a vending machine for the elementary students.
“It makes me want to read books,” third grader Konner Morgan said. “So I want to earn tokens to use the machine.”
Librarian Amanda Awakuni said the tokens are passed out to homeroom teachers and then they decide how to award them.
“It was a collaboration with myself, the Parent Teacher Organization and the administration team,” Awakuni said. “We had seen other schools with library vending machines and thought it would be a great idea.”
Awakuni said that the books inside the library vending machine are popular children’s books.
Fourth grader Kaleb Starnes said that going to the library puts him in a good mood because he likes the books there and because they’re very interesting.
“I would compare the library vending machine to a bitcoin machine,” Starnes said.
Third grader Bailey Willett said that she would compare the library vending machine to a drink vending machine.
“I like going to the library,” Willett said, “and checking out books to read them.”
Kindergartner McKinley White said that she likes the library and library vending machine.
“I feel happy because I like to get Barbie books,” White said. “I got a Barbie book from the library vending machine.”
