The varsity football team played this past week played against Munday and on 58-12.
Athletic Director and head football coach Bradan Ritchey said the boys have been working hard.
“Practices are going really good,” Ritchey said. “The boys love it. They get up early and have practice at 6 a.m.”
Ritchey said his expectation is for the football team members to always play to their best ability.
Ritchey said. ” We have to take it one game at a time and make sure everyone is trying their best.”
New roles have been added to the team.
“We have a good amount of guys who are going to have to step it up this season,” Ritchey said. “We have junior Jake Strenski (middle linebacker), sophomore Maddox Mayo (outside linebacker), sophomore Gage McCord (receiver), senior Noah Cornell (running back) and sophomore Hunter Hall (snapper) all taking on a new role this year.”
Cornell is taking on a role that he has played in the past.
“This year coach told me I would be playing running back,” Cornell said. “At first, I was surprised because I had only practiced this position a couple times in the past.
Cornell said he is holding himself to a higher standard.
“I just want to play hard, no matter what role I play,” Cornell said. “I am going to take this new position and play the best and work the hardest I ever had.”
Junior Casen Booher said stepping up from playing on junior varsity to varsity was eye-opening.
” It’s a different game,” Booher said. “I have had to work harder, but Landon Smith has helped me get better and continues to motivate me.”
Smith, the quarterback, said that his main goal for the team is to be district champs.
“We have the team for it,” Smith said.” We just have to work hard.”
Smith said that he feels like this year is going well.
“We have good leadership and a good bond,” Smith said.
Smith explained that they practice two times a day.
“We get up early and get straight to work,” Smith said,” and then we finish off the day with a good lift and a short run through.”
Smith said that he just wants everyone to work the hardest they can.
“I have many expectations for this year, but as long as everyone is determined to win and try their best, I will be happy,” he said. “I want this year to be filled with lots of fun and W’s.”
