The cross country team competed at the district meet in Seymour on October 8th. The runners ran against Windthorst, Electra, Seymour, Olney, and Petrolia.
Eighth grader Emory Kincaid placed 5th with a time of 14 minutes and 19 seconds.
“I think we did very well at district. We pushed very hard to beat our time. That is all that matters.” Kincaid said.
The junior high boys finished fourth overall as a team and the junior high girls placed third.
Our runners all had different methods that readied them for the race. Some were pleased with their performance during the race
“I prepared for the race by using a stick roller to roll out my calves and hamstrings,” eighth grader Teegan Bumgarner said. “I 100% like the way coach Kyle coaches us and I think it really prepared us for the race.”
Junior Jetzy Miranda reflects on how she did last year and is glad to see improvement
“I am very proud about how I did in Seymour this year,” Miranda said. “My time got shorter than what I had got at last years meet.”
On the contrary eighth grader Jaleny Miranda became frustrated with how she performed at the meet
“I am not proud of my placement because I know I could have done better,” Miranda said. “I just didn’t try hard enough.”
Even though she didn’t like the results she recognizes how she has grown this year.
“My speed is better than last year and I have more confidence than when I started,” Miranda said.
Although the runners were hard on themselves, coach Kent Kyle was proud of his team and especially the new seventh graders.
“I was actually happy with the 7th grade,” Kyle said. “They worked hard and improved over each race. This was their first year and I expect a big jump out of them next year.”
